Progressions

Below is a series of progressions that I recommend working through to begin mastering your free standing handstand push up.

Progression 1: Headstand

The goal with this progression is to become comfortable in a headstand.

Make sure to create a tripod with your hands for balance.

Progression 2: Headstand w. Leg Kip

The goal here is to get used to kipping wit your legs while still being able to maintain balance. You don’t need to perform aggressive kips, simply focus on moving your legs the way you would when doing a kipping handstand push up.

Progression 3: Freestanding Handstand Push Up w. Wall

The goal here is to perform freestanding handstand push ups. Notice that while I am close to the wall I am not touching the wall. Find the balance between being close enough to the wall that it can provide support if you lose your balance forwards (like I do in the final rep of the video) but not so close that the wall gets in the way.
